We consider peer-to-peer tutoring to mean partnering students with students who have had similar experiences, in life or in education. Our tutors become trusted peers and student mentors.
When students help students, it leads to increase in academic performance, school attendance, socialization, self-esteem, and an improved attitude toward school. The encouragement refugee students receive from a peer tutor and the relationship that develops goes much further than what adults can provide. Peer students often share a common identity and a common perspective with regards to how they understand and enact their roles as students.
We believe that an important aspect of tutoring refugee students is building trust, creating connections, providing advice, and fostering an environment that enables students to openly ask questions and share their academic and social concerns.
We tutor refugee students of all ages and grade levels!
